On Saturday, July 22, representatives of Gender Stream took part in the Ukrainian column at the 45th Berlin CSD Pride. This year, thanks to Ukrainian organizations, there were loud calls at the event not only to support the LGBTQI community, but also to support Ukraine in the face of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Pride in Berlin is not just entertainment, it is a political demonstration designed to draw attention to the problems of the LGBTQI community in Germany and around the world. 75 trucks and many walking groups took part in the march. In total, Berlin CSD was visited by up to 500,000 people, including the presence of politicians – the managing burgomaster of Berlin Kai Wegner, the president of the Bundestag Berbel Bas and the ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksiy Makeiev.
Ukrainian LGBTQI organizations, including Gender Stream, drove through the streets of Berlin in a separate truck under yellow and blue flags and the motto Be Pride Like Ukraine. For us, participation in the event was primarily an opportunity to call on the world to continue supporting Ukraine – with weapons, humanitarian and other types of aid. We speak not only for ourselves, but also on behalf of all Ukrainians who defend Europe from Russian imperialism.
