The Gender Stream civil organization and the Department of Main Inspection and Human Rights Compliance have signed an official Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership.
Issues of hate crimes (transphobia and homophobia) require a comprehensive approach: preventing attacks and providing appropriate assistance in case of their occurrence. For this, a clear working algorithm is needed from all involved parties. Therefore, we plan the following:
- Development of instructions and methodological materials for police officers on ethical and effective communication with LGBTQI+ individuals.
- Organization of mutual training and seminars for Department employees, police officers, and Gender Stream activists.
- Development and dissemination of procedures for LGBTQI+ individuals to contact law enforcement agencies in case of hate crimes against them.
- Co-organization and support of mass events aimed at raising awareness and protecting the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals.
The key principles underlying our cooperation are openness and transparency, guided by mutual respect and awareness of our equality.
Among the main long-term results of the initiative: law enforcement officers will know how to work with LGBTQI+ people, human rights defenders will prevent crimes through education, and LGBTQI+ citizens will have a clear action plan in case of an attack against them.
