The NGO Gender Stream in collaboration with the Human Rights Centre ZMINA initiated a discussion aimed at advancing the strategy for advocating Draft Law No.
The event was held on May 6, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the Inspectorate General and Human Rights Department of the National Police of Ukraine, as well as to the public organizations and charitable foundations who are committed to supporting the momentous changes in Ukrainian legislation.
We’d like to emphasize that this draft law is crucial for safeguarding against discrimination based on gender and sexual identity, skin color, HIV status, ethnic, and social origin. May 13 marks three years since its registration, and nearly a year ago, the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Law Enforcement recommended its adoption. However, as we observe, it is still under consideration.
During the event, we accomplished the following:
- Discussed the overall status of draft law No. 5488 within the parliamentary framework and the objectives of advocacy.
- Identified key allies in lobbying for the draft law.
- Formulated a detailed plan for implementing the strategy to promote the draft law in the upcoming months.
- Established a message framework highlighting the significance of adopting the draft law.
- Scheduled informational events to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of the draft law.
We possess a significant objective, a formidable team, a meticulously crafted plan, and thus, our victory is inevitable.
